Treasure hunts are typically associated with Easter, pirates and college pranks – but Steam is getting in on the fun this month as well! From now until December 20th, the Great Steam Treasure Hunt (catchy title) will be getting gamers to do all sorts of fun stuff – all with the hope of winning great prizes at the end.
Every 48 hours, Steam will reveal a new set of four tasks to be completed – which may include earning Achievements in particular games, joining Community groups or simply editing parts of your online profile. To sweeten the deal even further, select games will be on sale throughout the Treasure Hunt, so you won’t have to fork over the big bucks on a chance to win.
If you complete any objective, you’ll qualify for a drawing to win the top 5 games on your wishlist, so make sure it’s well stocked! Each objective will have its own draw, so – obviously – the more you complete, the more likely you are to walk away a winner.
After the dust has settled, there will be three Grand Prize winners chosen from those gamers who complete any ten objectives by the end of the month, each one given 100 (one hundred!) individual Steam games of their choice.
All the rules are up on the website: http://store.steampowered.com/treasurehunt, and they’d like us to reassure you that no purchase is necessary. While it might help, one of today’s objectives is to set up an avatar on your Steam Community profile, so you could win stuff just by adding a picture.
So! First four objectives!
- Self Portrait: Setup an avatar on your Steam Community profile.
- Got Tanked?: Earn the Desert Fox Steam Achievement in R.U.S.E.
- Up the Ante: Win The Iron Curtain in Poker Night at the Inventory
- More Cowbell: Set a leaderboard score of at least 1,124,400 in easy mode for the ‘Paul Hartnoll’ level in Chime
And the first set of promotions which will run for the next 48 hours or so:
Good luck, gamers! If you win, it’d be great if you could share!
…oh, and if you’re that way inclined, there’s some special TF2 hat promotions running as well, with headgear given in exchange for objectives met. Nice.
