Xbox Kinect as seen through infrared

Kinect‘s motion-sensing technology relies pretty heavily on a whole lot of infra-red lights that it throws all over your living room. And we do mean a whole lot of them.

You’ll need night-vision goggles to check this one out for yourself, but fortunately for you, a clever New Zealander has some (they came free with Modern Warfare 2), as well as an Xbox 360 using Kinect and – importantly – a video camera.

The end result is like something Stanley Kubrick could have only dreamed of.

For other demonstrations, take a look at videos by Andrewe1 (better quality, less exciting), Bubbibubbi (complete with dramatic music).

So next time you’re playing a bit of Dance Central and feel hundreds and thousands of tiny eyes watching you – you’ll know why.
