Halloween updates: TF2, WoW, RDR, oh my!

Here’s three spooky updates for fans of Team Fortress 2, World of Warcraft and Red Dead Redemption – it just seemed appropriate, y’know? Seasonal.

I was about to label this “Scream Fortress“, until I noticed that was actually the official name of the update – it’s that time of year again, and the new Halloween-themed update for Team Fortress 2 is now available (totally free!).

Scream Fortress!

...and I thought I was so clever.

The, uh, “Headless headliner” of the update sees the first non-player character introduced to the TF series – appropriately, the Headless Horsemann. He’s a randomly-generated boss monster, and you’ll only find him in Mann Manor, an all-new (totally terrifying) attack/defend map. That is, if you can survive the exploding pumpkins long enough.

There’s also a handful of new “ghostchievements”, the grand opening of the Mann Co store’s Halloween department, new community items (from 10 new contributors), and… um… wrapping. (I know, we’re terrified).

The second announcement comes courtesy of Blizzard, who apparently aren’t quite tired enough to stop changing things in-game. Today, they’ve (finally) introduced the female worgen to the Cataclysm beta.

(Thanks, Wow Insider!)

Now, technically this isn’t quite a “Halloween” post, but a female werewolf in her underwear is pretty frightening if you ask me – and, as you did, here’s a video showing off the model’s animations and emotes – complete with not-quite-release-ready bugs. Remember, she’s on the side of the Alliance. They’re the “good guys”.

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare

Tasty brains!

And finally, if you’d been wondering what to do this weekend, Red Dead Redemption is holding a Double XP event, in celebration of the release of the Undead Nightmare DLC pack.

You’re invited to take down towns in Land Grab, team up with mates for a bit of Zombie-themed Undead Overrun, or simply spend a bit of time with the original Red Dead Redemption competitive modes to gain a decent-sized boost to your XP. Don’t forget, you’ll also be able to unlock new stuff – characters, titles, mounts and challenges.

The festivities kick off at 11am Pacific, Friday morning (that’s 5am Saturday for Australians on the east coast), and running all the way to 9:59pm Sunday night (3:59pm Monday afternoon for the Aussies).

Enjoy, kids!
