1 Tenacious D to rock BlizzCon 2010

Ending months of speculation, the greatest band in the world* today confirmed that they would be playing the closing concert of BlizzCon 2010. That’s right, Tenacious D – Jack Black and Kyle Gass – will be following in Ozzy Osbourne‘s footsteps and playing Saturday night, October 23, at the celebration of all things Blizzard.

The Greatest Band in the World*

Tickets to the event are sold out, but you can pick up a Virtual Ticket, which will give you more than 50 hours of event footage (including Tenacious D‘s performance), either online or via DIRECTV in the US.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, who will be gracing the closing concert stage with his band L80ETC, explained the choice:

“The best way to wrap up two days of epic entertainment is with an epic rock concert–and few bands fit the bill like Tenacious D.

“We’re looking forward to a great show and can’t wait to see what Jack and Kyle have in store for everyone attending BlizzCon and watching from home.”

Now – in case you’ve been living under a boulder and have no idea who we’re talking about – Tenacious D formed back in 1994, and swiftly rose to “rock god-dom” with the release of HBO’s cult-hit series Tenacious D: The Greatest Band on Earth. Since then, they’ve released a couple of albums and two live DVDs, sold out arena shows all over the world, and even starred in their own feature-length movie, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny. They’re already promising big things for their BlizzCon performance – an earth-shattering set including the debut of new (and soon-to-be-legendary) songs!

…and all of this kicks off next week, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Southern California. playerattack will be there, cameras at the ready, bringing you all the news that’s fit to print – and maybe some more on the side.
