December 7. Mark it in your calendars and start saving your pennies – Blizzard have just revealed it as the eagerly-anticipated release date for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, the third expansion for World of Warcraft.
The expansion will be available on DVD-ROM for both Windows and Macintosh – or, if you’d prefer, both versions will also be offered as a digital download via the Blizzard Store. (For the completists, there’s also a special Collector’s Edition, only available through certain retail outlets.)
Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, gushes:
“Cataclysm includes the best content we’ve ever created for World of Warcraft. It’s not just an expansion, but a re-creation of much of the original Azeroth, complete with epic new high-level adventures for current players and a redesigned leveling experience for those just starting out.
“With the help of our beta testers, we’re putting on the final polish, and we look forward to welcoming gamers around the world to enjoy it in just a couple of months.”
He’s not kidding – the entire face of Azeroth will be changed forever by the return of Deathwing, a corrupted Dragon Aspect. Take a good look around, everything’s soon going to be very different.
…and we’re not just talking about the landscape and the new adventures hidden around the place – or the new level cap of 85 and the upgraded experiences that brings. There are two new playable races thrown into the mix as well – goblins for the Horde and the mysterious worgen for the Alliance.
No matter what race you play, if you’re lucky (or unlucky, perhaps), you’ll come face to face with Deathwing himself – in a battle to determine the fate of the world!
