Well, we knew it’d sell, but did we know it’d sell this much? Blizzard have just announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has sold 3 million copies worldwide, in just the first month of it being on shelves.
It looks like the game’s on track as the bestselling PC release of 2010 – and the fastest-selling real-time strategy game of all time!
Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, is mighty pleased:
“We appreciate all the enthusiasm that players around the world have shown for StarCraft II.
“It was important to us to deliver an overall gameplay experience that was accessible, balanced, and fun, and it’s been gratifying to see how strongly the global community has already embraced the game.”
Released simultaneously in North America, Europe, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on July 27, day-one sales for StarCraft II quickly topped the one million mark – selling 1.5 million copies in the first 48 hours.
A lot of that was anticipation but, y’know, it’s a pretty decent game too, which doesn’t hurt…
