Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect set to turn pages

There’s a new Deus Ex in town, and it’s coming to an unexpected platform. Shunning the next-gen consoles, Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect returns to the oldest of old-school handhelds – the humble novel.

Andre Vu, Marketing Game Manager for Deus Ex explains:

“We’re really pleased to be able to announce this new DEUS EX novel with Del Rey books! The novel is set in the DEUS EX universe and there will be characters and story elements in it, that will overlap with our next videogame DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION, which we hope fans will be very excited about.”

With great innovation and technological advancement comes great chaos and conspiracies – new technologies are pushing human potential to the limits, at the same time as they’re tearing the world apart. Somewhere in the shadows are dark and secret powers, working together to create huge, complex plans that will see them take control of the world – even if it takes them decades.

But special-ops soldier Ben Saxon and Secret Service agent Anna Kelso stumble upon something awfully close to the truth, their choices run the risk of condemning society to an age of darkness.

Intrigued? James Swallow has picked up the pen for this one, with his CV listing work on novels and scripts for Doctor Who, Stargate, Warhammer 40,000 and Star Trek – as well as trying his hand at gamewriting for Killzone 2. He’s been awarded the Scribe Award for Best Speculative Fiction Original, so we’ve got a good feeling about The Icarus Effect. The book is due for release on Del Rey in 2011, which – while vague – is still more specific a release window than we have for Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
