Eternal Darkness developer Silicon Knights is teaming up with McMaster University, Mohawk College and the Art Gallery of Hamilton to create an institute for interactive digital media at McMaster Innovation Park.
The project, worth $CA11 million, is set to open its doors next year. The aim of the project is to establish Hamilton, Ontario as a hub for the gaming industry in the area.
According to The Speculator, the group is calling the institute “Eight,” based on the idea that games are the eighth major art form after music, poetry, dance, sculpture, painting, architecture and cinema.
Silicon Knights is hoping that the institute will help boost its research power through access to the university resources, while providing opportunities for students in the area to learn about the various aspects of game development.
