Battle.net set to integrate with Facebook

In a move which combines the world’s most popular social platform with the world’s premier online gaming platform, Blizzard have just confirmed that their battle.net gaming service will be integrated with Facebook.

The first step will see people able to add their Facebook contacts to their StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty friends list, making their gaming just that bit more sociable.

Paul Sams, chief operating officer of Blizzard Entertainment is grinning quite a bit at this point:

“We’re pleased to be working with Facebook to integrate their platform with Battle.net to enhance the social-entertainment experience for our players. This new functionality will make it easier than ever to connect with friends on Battle.net and play StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games together.”

If you’re already playing the StarCraft II beta test, you’re about to be a guinea pig for this new Facebook functionality as well – the finished product is expected to be available to all StarCraft II players when the game ships later this year.

…and of course, the story doesn’t stop there, with Blizzard promising more Facebook-related features for battle.net, and say that all will be revealed “at a later date”.
