WoW: Cataclysm details upcoming class changes

The Cataclysm is getting closer, and the boffins at Blizzard are starting to slowly let a few bits and pieces of news about the game filter out to the general public.

Starting today, the developers are promising to release overviews of the class changes currently being planned for the expansion. They’ll be announcing lists of new spells from 80-85, new passive mastery bonuses for each talent tree, and a brief outline of some of the talent changes that are in the works. For some lucky select classes, there will be new low-level spells announced, too!

Blue poster Bashiok has a bit of a disclaimer:

These changes will by no means be comprehensive, and are subject to change between now and the launch of the expansion. It’s also important to understand that some classes are currently further along in the development process than others, and as a result the amount of information will vary from class to class. Please do not let this frustrate you should your class be amongst those which are on the “lighter” side of things, as all classes will receive the same level of design attention before the expansion is released. Additionally we’ll be providing more information for all classes, especially as we move into the beta phase.

So – let the games begin! Up first are posts about Shaman and Warlocks, with an update on Priests due within the next few hours.

You can also check out changes to rage normalisation for Warriors and Druids, and some details on dispel mechanics which will affect healing classes. Or, if you’re more interested in Death Knights, we can confirm that they will have a dedicated tanking tree in Cataclysm, and that tree will be Blood.

Want to know more? Keep an eye on this calendar post to let you know when, and where, the new class-specific information will pop up.

Still no word on when Cataclysm will hit Azeroth, but it’s so close we can almost smell it. We’re expecting an announcement any day now, maybe Blizzard will send a message with those paladins on April 16th?
