I’d like you to meet someone new. He’s described as a young upstart, a hellion, and one who ignores the old-fashioned ways of doing things. He is the male Wizard, the latest character class revealed for Diablo III, after the female Monk and the lady Barbarian.
In an interesting twist, it seems that this is one time that the male character is nearly showing more skin than his female counterpart, but the two of them could be raven-haired, pale-skinned twins. Their wardrobe reflects their slight Asian influence, and is straight out of some sort of rock video (in fact I think I saw someone dressed like that at a festival over the weekend…).
The Wizard was first revealed at BlizzCon 2008 as the third playable class. Fans of Diablo 2 should find them vaguely familiar, as they are a revamped version of that game’s Sorceress. This time around, they’ve been given the “uncouth” label of Wizard – as “even the title of a civilized magic wielder is too restrictive”. It comes as no surprise then that they sound like a pretty mischievous pair – able to control the weather (designed to feel ‘epic’), slow time, and even melt their opponent, if they so choose.
Aesthetically speaking, the Blizzard designers had a lot of fun with this one – and we haven’t even begun to see the attack animations. Promising a ‘light show’ full of explosions, flames, energy and the occasional bit of cosmology-inspired violence, I think this new fellow will fit in quite nicely.
For more information on Mr. Wizard and his female companion, check out the official Diablo III class page, and stay tuned, we’re waiting to see the Female Witch Doctor properly next… then there’s only one character class remaining before release!
