Every now and then, as a writer, I’m faced with something that is so perfect all by itself that it’s obvious no words can possibly add to the situation.
This morning I discovered one of those things – the Organic Indie Preorder Pack. The guys from Overgrowth and Natural Selection 2 have gotten together, pooled their resources, and are offering a pre-order pack for both their games for more than 40% off their usual prices. You’ll be able to start alpha-testing both games immediately and feel comfy in the knowledge that all of your money has gone directly to a couple of awesome indie developers.
…want to know more? Just watch this:
(That trailer is much cooler than me for a variety of reasons, including Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sean Connery impersonations.)
But what about the games themselves?
Well – you might have heard of Natural Selection 2 before, it’s the follow-up to the most popular independent mod for Half-Life. This time around, it’s a multiplayer FPS, developed on its own engine and including some unique real-time strategy elements.
Natural Selection 2 is a standalone immersive, online FPS that pits aliens against humans in a strategic and action-packed struggle for survival. Two teams of up to 16 players face off with unique abilities in dynamic, evolving environments that change as you play. Watch spreading alien infestation deform hallways, and then use a flamethrower to clear it. Cut the power to disable marine structures or weld a loading door shut for defense. No matter what side you choose, you’ll never play the same game twice.
The guys behind Overgrowth, on the other hand, have set out to create “the best ninja rabbit game possible”. Do you really need to know more than that?
Well, here you go:
Overgrowth takes place in the savage world of Lugaru where rabbits, wolves and other animals are forced to use paws, claws and medieval weaponry to engage each other in battle. Combining 3rd person adventure platforming with intricate melee combat, Overgrowth achieves a unique feel. Overgrowth also benefits from Wolfire’s brand new Phoenix Engine which has been built from the ground up to allow the use of cutting edge graphics, animation, and physics. Add to these exciting features Overgrowth’s realistic artificial intelligence and streamlined control system and the result is an astoundingly immersive experience.
This is two games, twenty bucks each – can’t do much better than that in these trying, Global-Financial-Crisis affected times (particularly now that the holiday sales are mostly over). It’s for a limited time only – just over 4 days remain, at time of writing.
Like rabbits? Like aliens? Like indie games? Buy this, now.
