EA shuts sports servers sooner rather than later

Every now and then, Electronic Arts do a bit of spring cleaning, closing down old game servers to make room for new ones.

The next scheduled update is due on February 2nd, 2010 – and their definition of ‘older titles’ appears to be a little flexible, with several 2009 titles included in the mix.

Most of the changes will affect sports gamers (particularly those in Europe), but if you play any EA games online – console, handheld or PC – it’s worth checking this list to see if you’ll be affected.

February 2, 2010 Online Service Shutdown

Facebreaker x360 and PS3
Fantasy Football 09 x360 and PS3

Madden 09 Wii and PSP
March Madness 07 x360

It’s surprising to see a publisher believe their titles have such a short lifespan. We’re not sure where games go when they die, but wherever it is can expect to see a much younger crowd moving in.
