Koei get in on the Fisting action

The other day, I suggested that you enjoy a bit of fisting to kick off 2010 in style. After that post, we received a tip-off that there’s another fisty game on the horizon, combining two beloved Japanese franchises.

Exhibit A: Fist of the North Star
Manga series, which was serialised over five years in the mid-80s before spawning two television series, a bunch of movies and the inevitable handful of video games.

Exhibit B: Dynasty Warriors
A series of tactical action games originating in Japan, the best-selling titles for publishers Koei.

That’s right – Hokuto Musou, a Fist of the North Star-themed Dynasty Warriors spin-off has been confirmed for Japanese release in March of this year (no word as yet on an English-language version yet, but we’re keeping an eye out!).

There’s an official website to check out, some gameplay footage floating around, and – in a New Year’s treat – the official trailer, right here on playerattack!

The storyline at this point takes you into an apocalyptic wasteland (where else?), where Kenshiro (ultimate tough-guy) will battle it out against his brother Raoh (the somewhat comically-titled King of Fist). Throw a few handfuls of freaks into the mix, add a dash of exploding heads, some flying organs and other delicacies, and it looks like this one will be far from a second-rate spin-off.

Koei have also claimed there will be two main story modes, with one following the plot of the original manga, and the other featuring Kenshiro in an all-new adventure.

Don’t forget, Koei have had a little experience combining the action series with anime, as seen in Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, so the concept’s in safe enough hands. Currently in development for both PS3 and Xbox 360, this looks like one to save up for, even if it means brushing up on your kanji and importing the Japanese release.
