The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection now free for all

Want a free game to tide you over before The Sims 4? How about The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection? Just one week after bundling things up as a freebie for fans, the publisher's opened the floodgates and invited everyone in to check it out.

UPDATE: It has come to our attention that this free game also comes with troublesome SecuROM DRM software. Proceed with caution.

The Sims 2

There'll be no more of that, thank you!

Snagging your free copy is as simple as 1-2-3(-4).

  1. Start by downloading and installing Origin.
(If you already have Origin you can skip to step 3.)
  2. Not an Origin member? Create a free Origin Account to get in the game.
  3. Launch Origin and log into your Origin Account.
  4. From the ‘Games’ tab in the Origin menu, select ‘Redeem Product Code’
    and enter the code I-LOVE-THE-SIMS

That's it!

Make sure you get in quick though - the code's only going to get you a free game if you redeem it before July 31st, 2014. That gives you about a week to grab a download and revisit The Sims 2. The game's nearly 10 years old and EA has officially ended support for the original version, but the brand new Ultimate Collection is alive and kicking - complete with brand new content.

On the other hand, if you're the sort of person with self control, you can try to hold on for The Sims 4 - it's headed our way from September 2.
