Former C&C, Microsoft talent now working on Adr1ft

Three One Zero is an indie studio based in California, busily working on its first game. While that name might not be familiar to you right now, there's a few people working behind the scenes that make the developer something to watch out for.

Adam Orth was the guy who "didn't get the drama" over an always-on Xbox One experience a year ago. He wrote a scathing tweet - "Every device now is 'always on'. That's the world we live in." - and ended it with a disparaging #dealwithit hashtag.

Orth's sentiments - or his way of expressing them - may have flown under the radar if it hadn't been for his job: Creative Director at Microsoft Studios, where he'd been working on an unannounced game for more than a year. Not long after posting his opinions online, Orth was looking for a new job.

Around the same time, Sam Bass was telling fans that Victory Games and EA were going to "wash the stain of C&C 4 away" with a brand new version of Command & Conquer.

By October, Sam was also looking for a new job, as the eagerly-anticipated reboot was unceremoniously axed - the fourth in the franchise to never see the light of day.

...and this is where Three One Zero comes in. Orth founded the studio with his friends, former Treyarch developer Omar Aziz and artist Hogarth De La Plante, with the idea of making beautiful, original games.

Adr1ft is the first. Described as a "first person experience", the game tells the story of an astronaut in peril. And now, Adr1ft has Sam Bass working as Senior Designer.

Floating silently amongst the wreckage of a destroyed space station with no memory and a severely damaged EVA suit, the only survivor struggles to determine the cause of the catastrophic event that took the lives of everyone on board. The player fights to stay alive by exploring the wreckage for precious resources, and overcomes the challenges of an unforgiving environment to repair the damaged emergency escape vehicle and safely return home.

Three One Zero recently signed a deal that sees 505 Games picking up publishing duties for Adr1ft, with the game scheduled for a PC/Console release in mid-2015. With this sort of a pedigree, we can't wait to see more.
