Unknown error plagues PS4 consoles

Just two months after launch, and gamers are reporting issues with PlayStation 4 consoles. The CE-34878-0 error has causing problems for fans since early December, crashing consoles and corrupting save data, but it has become markedly more prevalent in recent weeks.

The code pops up after PS4 game crashes - regardless of the reason for the crash - and many gamers are reporting corrupted game save data immediately after. Users have not been able to find a single, systematic problem that is causing the error message.

Sony is also unsure what is throwing the code, but has offered the following advice:

  1. Close the application, install the latest system software and game update, and restart the system.
  2. If the error occurs again, back up your saved data, and then go to [Settings] > [Initialization] and choose [Initialize PS4].

Sony thanks gamers for their patience while developers hunt for the problem.
