Call of Duty: Ghosts getting new, terrifying DLC

As a fan of horror films, the first DLC offerings for Call of Duty: Ghosts make me very happy. Due out later this month, Onslaught brings with it four new unique multiplayer maps, plus the first chunk of a four-part episodic storyline and a very familiar bad guy.

Mark Rubin, Executive Producer at Infinity Ward explains:

We know our fans have an appetite for new gameplay content all year long, and the team here is committed to delivering a full season’s worth of amazing new maps, weapons and more, starting with Onslaught in January. This year will see an assortment of content for players to dig into, with new, uniquely themed maps, new multiplayer weapons, and an episodic Extinction story arc that introduces new characters, new locations, and new weapons as they try to uncover the genesis of the aliens’ existence.

Here's a look at the four new maps:
BayView is set on a Californian boardwalk, decorated with seaside gift stores and an aquarium. On the surface, it looks like a standard, close-quarters map, but remember that enemies can call in air-strikes from that Naval Destroyer parked offshore.

Containment takes gamers to South America, and a dried out riverbed. The key point: A truck parked on a small bridge, leaking radioactive material.

Ignition is in Florida, in an aging space launch facility. It's reminiscent of Modern Warfare 2 map Scrapyard, but this time you've been treated to a bunch of dynamic gameplay elements - including rockets crash-landing into the map, and two separate rocket test engine sites.

...but where do the horror films come in?
The final map: Fog. It's a "small-to-medium sized map", set on the banks of a lake. There's an eerie campsite, a torture chamber, flickering tvs and an abandoned building or two that hide the map's dark secret. As you progress, you'll find and complete Field Orders. Pick the wrong one, and you'll be transformed into one of the cinema world's most iconic, terrifying characters: Michael Myers, as the soundtrack morphs into the awfully familiar Halloween theme tune, so all players know they should run for their lives.

As well as all of that, and a bunch of cool new weaponry, the DLC pack also includes the first chapter of Extinction. Episode 1: Nightfall adds two new characters to tell the story, and two new alien species to keep things interesting.

You are in the Alaskan wilderness, in a remote hidden facility. The Nightfall Program has been researching the aliens you uncovered in Ghosts, and have sent a recon team in to retrieve intel. Of course, there's one more alien waiting for them: A three-story tall monster, unlike anything they've ever faced.

Call of Duty: Ghosts gets its first DLC pack on Xbox Live on January 28th, with other platforms following shortly after.
