Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment explains:
With Reaper of Souls, we’re taking Diablo III back to its darker, deadlier roots and also giving players a new way to experience the game. In addition to adding a new character class, a new act, and tons of fully randomised new content, we’re opening up the world so players are free to explore the game as they see fit, whether it’s following along with the story line or charting their own course across Sanctuary.
The new expansion will take you into a brand new act, visiting the city of Westmarch, destroying demons, and exploring all-new, terrifying landscapes. At the end? A confrontation with the fallen Archangel of Wisdom - Malthael - who has set his mind to destroying the citizens of Sanctuary.
But that's not all. Reaper of Souls will feature:
All of this is bundled up into the Reaper of Souls standard edition, which will set you back AU$49.95 RRP in stores, or AU$44.95 online.
Want more? The Digital Deluxe Edition (AU$64.95) is packed with a bunch more nifty stuff: Exclusive transmogrification recipes for helms and weapons, to make your character stand out even more among the champions of Sanctuary. An adorably dangerous Spectral Hound minion to keep you company on your epic journey. Three new character slots for you to create new heroes.
...and if you like other Blizzard games, there's a World of Warcraft in-game companion pet, the Treasure Goblin; plus a set of Crusader-themed Battle.net portraits and Malthael-themed decals for StarCraft II.
Still want more? Grab the physical Collector's Edition! It'll set you back AU$89.95 RRP and includes all of the in-game stuff in the Digital Deluxe Edition plus: A full-colour art book (hardcover, of course); a behind-the-scenes two-disc Blu-ray/DVD set; and a mouse pad featuring the Angel of Death himself, Malthael.
As with all good Blizzard games, Reaper of Souls will appear simultaneously on Windows and Mac - so regardless of which home PC you're fond of, you should slap down a pre-order now - particularly if you want that Collector's Edition.
I like video games and music and cups of tea and noodles and beagles and colour-cycling LEDs.
