Warcraft film delayed to 2016

The film adaptation of Warcraft has been pushed back by a few months, to March 11, 2016. While we're not going to pretend we're not disappointed by the news, it does mean that it no longer has to share the December 18, 2015 date with the juggernaut that is Star Wars: Episode VII.

The official World of Warcraft Twitter broke the news:

Release date for WARCRAFT from @Legendary Pictures released by @UniversalPics is moving from December 18, 2015, to March 11, 2016.

Last month at BlizzCon, the film's director Duncan Jones and visual effects supervisor Bill Westenhofer joined Blizzard's Chris Metzen, Rob Pardo and Nick Carpenter, to share a few scant details about the project.

Rumours have swirled about possible casting, with Vikings star Travis Fimmel joining Colin Farrell and Paula Patton on the alleged lineup.

We do know for certain now that Warcraft will be an origins story, focussing on the conflict between Orcs and Humans. No real details have been revealed about the plot so far, but Warcraft II characters Lothar and Durotan have been confirmed, and we've seen hints of locations including Draenor, Dalaran, Stormwind and Ironforge.
