One million. That's how many Xbox One consoles were sold around the world in the first 24 hours of being on sale. Simply put, that's a new Xbox hardware sales record - and the numbers keep on coming.
In just 24 hours, gamers around the world drove more than 3.6 million miles in Forza 5, dispatched 8.5 million baddies in Ryse, came up with 7.1 million combos in Killer Instinct, and killed more than 60 million zombies in Dead Rising 3.
Yusuf Mehdis, Microsoft's corporate VP of marketing and strategy explains:
Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team. We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles and look forward to fulfilling holiday gift wishes this season.
If you didn't pick up a console on day one, you might be left waiting a while, Microsoft's confirmed that the Xbox One has sold out across most retail channels, but the company is trying hard to get more to retailers.
To put this achievement into perspective: Yes, the numbers mean Microsoft has matched the PS4 24-hour sales figure, but there's one detail which makes Sony's achievement even sweeter. The Xbox One launched worldwide - in 13 territories - on Friday November 22. The PS4? Just two, the United States and Canada.
I like video games and music and cups of tea and noodles and beagles and colour-cycling LEDs.
