Do the milkshake the milkshake do the shake

What’s the best-selling video game of 2013 so far?

What do you think is the best-selling console and handheld video game year-to-date? Why, it's Skylanders Giants! Surprised? The U.S. and Europe sales figures include games, toys and accessories, and it is also celebrating the largest kids' videogame launch in those territories.

Want some numbers? In its first two weeks, Giants globally sold more than 500,000 Starter Packs and Portal Owner Packs.

Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc. explains:

Skylanders is the biggest video game including toys and accessories and the biggest action figure line in the industry in the U.S. and Europe so far this year. Skylanders Giants also delivered the biggest kids' video game launch of the last 12 months. We’ve accomplished this unmatched level of success by consistently delivering magic to our passionate, young fans. And the best is yet to come. With next month’s release of Skylanders SWAP Force, we will take this category that we’ve pioneered to a new level of innovation and creativity.

...while it's somewhat likely that major holiday launches will eclipse the best-seller title, the Skylanders franchise is doing pretty darn well for itself. In the first eight months of the year, Skylanders figures are expected to have outsold the top action-figure properties in Europe and the U.S. - and, since the franchise launched, it's generated more than $1.5 billion in worldwide sales.

Skylanders SWAP Force launches for PS3, Wii U, Wii and Xbox 360 from October 13, with a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version following soon after.
