TownCraft is a brand new city-builder for iPad. It's got more than a handful of RPG and crafting elements thrown in, and an charmingly retro feel. One thing it doesn't have? Microtransactions. What you see is what you get.
The game hit #2 on the Australian iPad charts within weeks of its local launch, and has now set its sights on the international market, with developers Leigh Harris and Rohan Harris of Flat Earth Games blown away by its success.
People seem to really like the stripped back and ‘pure’ nature of the game. We created a game which would allow the player to sink into it without distraction, and the response has been great!
The reception here in Australia was huge. I can’t say I’d ever considered that I might be seeing our first videogame in the Top Ten Charts on the App Store!
It's the debut game for the development team, and brothers Rohan and Leigh are painstakingly recording their progress as the game moves from stage to stage. Covering everything from accidental uploads to taking criticism, it's good reading for anyone considering dipping a toe into game development.
TownCraft is internationally available now for iPad 2 and up, as well as iPad Mini. An iPhone version is also in the works.
I like video games and music and cups of tea and noodles and beagles and colour-cycling LEDs.
