Plants vs. Zombies comic launches for iOS

Plants vs. Zombies 2 was scheduled for release around the world today - but then it was delayed, and then it hit Australia and New Zealand anyway. If you're not in the right part of the world, don't stress - you can still get your undead gardening fix, thanks to the team at PopCap Games and Dark Horse Comics.

Sure, it's not the game, but it's something that's still pretty fun: It's the first issue of Plants vs. Zombies: Lawnmageddon - and it's available right now, absolutely free.

Plants vs. Zombies: Lawnmageddon

Plants vs. Zombies: Lawnmageddon is a six-part comic series created by Paul Tobin and Ron Chan. It's an iOS exclusive for now, but will get a new lease on life with a hardcover edition promised for later in the year.

You can snag the first two issues right now - the first taste is free (aren't they always?), but only for the duration of San Diego Comic-Con this weekend.

So... The story! Plants vs. Zombies: Lawnmageddon focusses again on Crazy Dave. The zombie hordes have invaded the local sewers, so Dave's niece Patrice and Nate Timely, a "young adventurer" have run away to Crazy Dave's House - apparently surrounded by sentient plants.

Many fan-favourite plants and zombies pop up in the comic - could that be Dr. Zomboss coordinating the attacks from behind the scenes?

After these initial two issues, the rest will be released on a weekly basis every Wednesday - you'll need the Plants vs. Zombies Comics app on your iDevice.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 is still a while off, aiming for the non-specific date of "later this Summer", but the comic will at least keep us happy for a little while.
