XCOM: Enemy Unknown is set to take 2K's alien goodness to an all new platform, with the game's official launch on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Promising the full Enemy Unknown experience, the portable version gives you a simple task: Defend the human race against the aliens. This time, you can fit the battle in your pocket, but that doesn't make the experience any less impressive.
The new version has been built specifically for the iOS platforms, designed to take full advantage of the touch screen. Command the XCOM project, research alien technologies, build a fully operational base, and engage in some strategic combat - all with just a few taps.
Bringing a game of XCOM: Enemy Unknown’s size, depth and quality to a mobile platform isn’t something you see often, but we’ve accomplished just that. We’ve been very pleased with the success of XCOM: Enemy Unknown and we expect that to continue as we bring the full experience to this exciting new platform.
Optimised for iOS, XCOM: Enemy Unknown also uses iCloud functionality for online saves, as well as GameCenter support for leaderboards. While not implemented at launch, 2K is also promising head-to-head multiplayer as a free update sometime in the future.
Turn-based strategy games are a natural fit for a touch interface, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown takes full advantage of this on iOS devices. We’re thrilled that gamers have yet another platform to play the game on, especially one that allows XCOM: Enemy Unknown to be played anywhere, anytime.
Of course, a game this hefty also comes with a hefty price tag: XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iOS is available for AU$20.99 from the Apple App Store, right now.
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
