Details are still - predictably - thin on the ground, but the as-yet-unnamed series is a joint project between Spielberg, Microsoft and Halo 4 developer 343 Industries. It builds on the success of last year's Halo: Forward Unto Dawn series, which was well-received across the world.
As part of the Xbox One announcement, Nancy Tellem, Microsoft president of entertainment promises a truly immersive experience with TV on the Xbox One.
Spielberg, a long-time gamer, is excited about the potential contained within the franchise:
For me, the Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and myth-making meet.
343 studio head Bonnie Ross agrees, commenting that the series is the chance to combine "the storytelling magic of television with the interactive innovation of Xbox One".
The series will be available through Xbox Live, but we're not yet sure how exclusive it will be, or if Spielberg's efforts will also show up on non-console outlets. More details as they come to hand.
I like video games and music and cups of tea and noodles and beagles and colour-cycling LEDs.
