World of Warcraft adds security with Kaspersky

Blizzard has confirmed one of the most obvious, most amazing team-ups in the history of gaming, signing a deal with Kaspersky Lab to offer a software bundle that includes 30 days access to World of Warcraft, plus Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King and - wait for it - Kaspersky Internet Security 2013.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

Not everyone can defeat viruses with a big sword

To prove how perfect a match this truly is: Kaspersky has designed a specific "game mode" for its latest anti-virus package, which holds off on those annoying intensive scans until after you're done raiding.

Riaan Badenhorst, Head of Operations for Kaspersky Lab Africa explains:

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 understands what gamers need. It has a special ’Game Mode’ which, when activated, postpones resource-hungry processes to free up processor power for smooth gaming. Additionally, it doesn’t distract you with notifications if you choose a full-screen mode while gaming; yet it never stops protecting you and your gaming experience.

It's the sort of bundle that's ideal for gamers concerned about security - but if you're buying this one as a gift, WoW Insider recommends you also pick up an authenticator to ensure you're as safe in-game as you are in the real world.

...but there's a catch: This WoW/Kaspersky bundle is only available in South Africa, where it's currently selling for 399 Rand (around US$44). That's the same price as Kaspersky Internet Security by itself, so why not grab the game too? (If you live elsewhere, you'll have to fork out for both bits separately. Sorry!)
