40 jobs slashed at Deadpool developer High Moon

And continuing the bad news - Activision has confirmed mass layoffs at High Moon Studios. 40 full-time developers have been let go from the studio, which recently finished work on the upcoming Deadpool adaptation.

It is fairly typical for game developers to follow the boom-bust cycle - add employees while the game is in the development stage, then do not renew contracts / let them go again once the title has hit shelves.

According to publisher Activision, that's pretty much what happened at High Moon, home of Transformers and Jason Bourne adaptations:

Activision Publishing consistently works to align its costs with its revenues--this is an ongoing process. With the completion of development on Deadpool, we are taking a reduction in staff at High Moon Studios to better align our development talent against our slate.

The studio is offering "impacted" employees outplacement counseling services and help in finding new jobs.
