Ash Monif, the former COO and executive producer at Human Head Studios, has branched out on a new project, teaming up with League of Legends artist Randis Albion. The pair have been described as "Evil Dead meets Monty Python", and are working together on fairy tale-themed games with a "dark twist".
Monif explains that he has always been a fan of "complex" subject matter:
I grew up reading the classics Grimm, Chaucer, Tolkien – and I feel that today’s games gloss over a lot of the richness that can be found within these great works. Our goal is to build a community of core and mid-core gamers who are seeking out a redefined RPG experience.
The new studio - Grimm Bros (what else?) - is currently working on its first, unnamed title (part of a AAA-quality franchise for PCs and tablets) and planning a bit of a reveal at next week's GDC 2013.
Continuing the theme of doing things a little differently, Grimm Bros' big reveal was not done through the mainstream channels, the gaming media or the usual suspects. Instead, the announcement popped up quietly on the pair's former college website, which speaks very proudly of these two alumni.
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
