Ubisoft has apparently bowed to consumer pressure and admitted that yes, the next Assassin's Creed game is the heavily-rumoured Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. We'd been hearing whispers about the game after posters were sent to loose-lipped retailers, but today's news is official, straight from the publisher itself.Black Flag actually is. We do know that the game is set in the 18th century Caribbean, when swashbucklers ruled the high seas.
Maps hint at a decently-sized gameplay area, spanning Kingston, Havana and southern Florida. We've also seen suggestions that the pictured Assassin (pistol + dagger in hand) is actually Edward Kenway, father of Haytham Kenway and grandfather of Assassin's Creed III hero Connor Kenway (but of course, right?).
As well as the official reveal from Ubisoft, online retailer Amazon has gotten in on the act too, revealing that Black Flag will be available on Xbox 360 and Wii U - with "60 minutes of exclusive gameplay" on offer if you pick it up on PlayStation 3.
While almost all of this is up in the air at the moment, expect landfall on Monday, with Ubisoft scheduled to make a more detailed announcement in the U.S. on March 4th.
