Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation writing wins big

Assassin's Creed III: Liberation has taken out the award for Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing at this year's Writers Guild of America ceremony. Richard Farrese and Jill Murray from Ubisoft wrote a story that surpassed the limitations of the PlayStation Vita to take home the handheld's first WGA gong.

Assassin's Creed III: Liberation

It was a close call this year, with six of the best vying for the coveted title. While gamers scoffed at the inclusion of universally panned 007 Legends, Liberation was up against crowd favourite (and Vita colleague) Uncharted: Golden Abyss, as well as Halo 4, Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two and - wait for it - the console version of Assassin's Creed III.

Assassin's Creed III: Liberation is a standalone spin-off to the Assassin's Creed series, and breaks new ground for the series. Not only is it the first handheld incarnation of the franchise, but Aveline de Grandpré, the African-French assassin, is the first female protagonist of the series. It's only fitting then, that her story should be the one to take home the gold.
