Star Trek comes to consoles before the big screen

Star Trek fans will be able to get their hands-on fix a little earlier than expected, with Digital Extremes and Namco Bandai confirming that Star Trek, the simply-titled shooter, will be arriving on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 from April 26th, a few weeks before JJ Abrams' film, Star Trek: Into Darkness.

The game itself is not based on Into Darkness, although it does draw on many of the same characters and interpretations. Instead of being a simple tie-in, Star Trek is a standalone story embracing Kirk/Spock (not like that, sorry) and the legendary alien opponent the Gorn.

Adding authenticity to the game are Chris Pine (Kirk) and Zachary Quinto (Spock), both providing voices and likenesses, as do Karl Urban (McCoy), John Cho (Sulu), Anton Yelchin (Chekov), Zoe Saldana (Uhura) and Simon Pegg (Scotty).

The news comes via Namco Bandai's Australian offices, and we don't yet have international release dates, but one assumes they'd be in the same ballpark.
