Analysts are reporting that 2012 was a good year for Xbox Live Arcade, with the online service reporting the gaming platform made US$290 million in just twelve months. This is double the amount seen in 2011, and one game is almost singlehandedly to blame, with Minecraft selling nearly four million copies more than its closest competitor.
The game in second place is no small fry either, with Trials Evolution selling more than 1,002,000 units over the same period, and The Walking Dead coming in third with 2,615,000 units (a cheaper selling price means the tv tie-in made US$10m compared to the US$14m of Trials). After that, it's a significant drop down to fourth, with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive only managing 273,000 units sold.
Here's the full list - and there's a few surprises in these ten games. They're not all the big AAA titles you might expect, and they're also not the newest of new releases, either. XBLA gamers are, indeed, a funny bunch.
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
