Hasbro and PopCap have teamed up to bring several casual gaming blockbusters into a "whole new world", announcing physical, face-to-face games based on PopCap properties. First two on the blocks? Bejeweled featuring gem-swapping on a real-world game board, and a card-based interpretation called Bejeweled Frenzy.
Brennan Townley, Director of Brand Licensing at PopCap Games explains:
Hasbro shares PopCap's vision and commitment to high quality and endlessly enjoyable game play. We're thrilled to work with Hasbro to create unique game experiences around PopCap's intellectual properties that expand our brands in authentic, meaningful ways.
The original Bejeweled features a unique game board, where players swap gems to match three or more. If this real-world gaming isn't exciting enough, purchasing the Hasbro product will also unlock an exclusive code for you to download Bejeweled 3 on your computer!
Bejeweled Frenzy sees fans matching gems and building up stacks of cards as quickly as they can - and if you pick up the retail edition, you'll also snag four Rare Gems to use online in Facebook game Bejeweled Blitz.
Jonathan Berkowitz, Vice President of Marketing for Hasbro Gaming
PopCap has created some of the most popular, unique and enduring video game franchises of all time, and we are excited to help bring these properties to the analog world. We can't wait to give consumers around the globe all new ways to play and interact with their favorite PopCap brands.
Both of these games are just the tip of the iceberg, due out in the North American spring of 2013. Keep an eye out, PopCap has a wide collection of games, and Hasbro looks like it's up for just about anything. Who knows what's next?
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
