Minecraft sells 450k+ games on Christmas day

It's exciting times for Minecraft, with developer Markus "Notch" Persson reporting via Twitter that the game sold more than 453,000 copies on Christmas Day alone, across platforms including PC, Mac, Xbox Live, iOS and Android. (...even if he did originally get the date wrong in all the excitement)

Combine these with the 17.5 million franchise sales added up earlier in the month, and the Swedish developer is understandably a little pleased with himself.

Breaking down the sales total, we have 8.6 million PC/Mac versions, 5 million of the Pocket Edition (for smartphones and tablets), and Xbox Live Arcade bringing up the rear with a none-too-shabby 4.48 million. (All sales details as of earlier this month.)

Plus, if you can't get enough of the blocky Minecraft goodness, 2Player Productions' fabulous, official documentary on the game is available now, through the usual online channels and an unusual one to keep you on your toes.
