Over the weekend, Ubisoft revealed plans for a mysterious new title from the Assassin's Creed mythos. Titled The Tyranny of King Washington, nobody seemed quite sure just what it was. Now, the wraps have come off completely, and it has been announced as a new, very nifty, bit of DLC for Assassin's Creed III.
It's a bit of a departure from the norm for the Ubisoft series. While previous games and updates have focussed on (mostly) "historically accurate" experiences, coupled with the ongoing Templar saga (and who are we to debate the authenticity of that), The Tyranny of King Washington is a thoroughly fictional affair.
This is actually a well thought-out move from Ubisoft, who acknowledges that not everybody will rush out and buy every piece of DLC (as much as the studio might want them to). By adding in a completely non-canon, extra-curricular storyline that has no impact on the Assassin's Creed III plot, Ubisoft is avoiding "fracturing" the audience.
I like video games and music and cups of tea and noodles and beagles and colour-cycling LEDs.
