Guild Wars publisher rocked by job cuts

It's been a year of ups and downs for NCsoft. Guild Wars 2 was super-popular when it launched a few months ago, but the company's good fortune was dampened by the controversial decision to close City of Heroes. Now, following that move, we're hearing about "realignments" hitting the NCsoft studios.

Despite earlier rumours that the Seattle studio had closed completely, NCsoft Public Relations Director Lincoln Davis has told PC Gamer that there are some adjustments taking place.

NCsoft is realigning internal publishing resources to better suit the needs of our game development studios. As a result of the realignment, several employees and contract positions were affected. This was a very tough decision to make and wish the best for all NCsoft employees in their next ventures.

This year, NCsoft financial reports reflected a reduction in revenue of more than 10% compared to the previous year. That said, this is the first major job cut / restructuring at NCsoft since October 2011, where employees in Brighton, Austin and Seattle were hit with layoffs.

At this stage, the company is refusing to comment on any potential effects to Guild Wars 2.
