Just in case you were considering spending your weekend with your new console, Microsoft would like it a little better if you instead hung out with your old friend the Xbox 360. To make that deal even sweeter, Xbox LIVE Gold is scrapping its subscription price for the weekend, meaning you can check out all of the latest entertainment experiences traditionally only offered to paying subscribers.
From Thursday, November 29 until Sunday, December 2nd, Xbox LIVE Gold will be unlocked in the following regions: Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States.
All Xbox 360 gamers in the participating regions will be given access to the new Internet Explorer for Xbox 360, Video Kinect, online multiplayer gaming and the entire entertainment app suite, for just long enough to get hooked.
However, gamers in Australia are offered a super-special treat: An opportunity to spend time with some of Australia's best Spartans, by jumping into a Halo 4 training boot camp or two.
Pick from four different pro-gamers to train with, including:
CAMP 1: SNIPER
GamerTag: Blaze [ACL]
Known for their ability to wreak havoc on the enemy’s spawns and cover their teammates from afar.
CAMP 2: SLAYER
GamerTag: Hopey [ACL]
Known for their skill at controlling the power weapons and power positions on a map to take over the game.
CAMP 3: SUPPORT
GamerTag: Halvo [ACL]
Known for their smart, selfless play style and their ability to lay down a tonne of cover fire whilst staying alive.
CAMP 4: OBJECTIVE
GamerTag: Ogre1 [ACL]
Known for their decision making and ability to stay alive, they are trusted with the most important goal, achieving the objective.
This all kicks off at 7pm NSW/Victoria/Tasmania time Friday November 30th (6pm Queensland, 6:30pm South Australia / Northern Territory, 4pm Western Australia). If you're not into Halo 4, don't worry: You can still use your free Xbox LIVE Gold access to check out everything else on the console.
I like video games and music and cups of tea and noodles and beagles and colour-cycling LEDs.
