Halo 4 launch marred by server issues, no PC port

The much-anticipated Halo 4 from studio 343 Industries has finally hit shelves, only for players to experience a somewhat bumpy ride trying to get onto servers. With all the recent issues plaguing new releases recently, one would think that Microsoft would have prepared for this eventuality, but apparently the numbers have surprised even them. Players world over seem to be enjoying the game despite the issues, which Microsoft assures us are being looked into on the Halo Waypoint blog.

Halo 4 release marked by unidentified flying objects

The Halo 4 launch was heralded by the flight of a 50-foot model of the game's Glyph symbol over the River Thames in London yesterday, continuing the tradition of over-the-top launch events from Microsoft. The Glyph is one of the largest and brightest man-made structures to fly over a capital city and weighs over 3 tonnes, and follows the creation of a replica of the Halo universe in the heart of Europe last week.

This is what Chris Lewis, Vice President of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft EMEA had to say:

The Glyph flyover makes the seemingly impossible world of science fiction a reality, a 50 foot symbol of the Didact hovering in the skies of a major capital city, seems a fitting way to herald the next chapter of this phenomenal blockbuster franchise.

Sadly for PC fans and perhaps unsurprisingly given their recent focus on consoles, over at the Penny Arcade Report a Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed that Halo 4 will not be coming to PC.

Halo 4 was designed specifically for Xbox 360, and while we’re always exploring new ways to expand the franchise and share the Halo experience with as many fans as possible, we do not currently have any plans to port Halo 4 to PC.

With any luck Microsoft will fix any residual launch issues quickly, and we can all settle in and shoot each other a lot in glorious gory HD soon.
