Resident Evil 6 is Capcom’s biggest shipment

Despite some fairly mixed reviews, Resident Evil 6 has just set an important milestone, shipping more than 4.5 million copies around the world - the highest initial shipment for any Capcom game.

At time of writing, predecessor Resident Evil 5 has sold more than 5.8 million copies since launch in March 2009. The RE6 shipments are shared between PS3 and Xbox, with Capcom remaining tight-lipped on the details. However, after less than a week on-shelves, if these shipments translate to actual sales, RE6 is officially the publisher's fifth best-selling game, tucked in behind Monster Hunter Freedom 3 for PSP.

It seems that Capcom has some pretty high hopes for the latest Resident Evil outing, as well: The company hopes to sell (not move) 7 million copies by March 31st, 2013. If (or when) that target is met, RE6 will be Capcom's best-selling game ever, overtaking Street Fighter II and its measly 6.3 million.
