When it comes to pre-orders, Firaxis Games is taking a slightly unusual approach to XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Rather than simply offering everybody the same pre-order goodies, earlybird gamers will get one of a number of bonuses, depending entirely on how many people put money down for the game.
The new pre-order bonuses for XCOM: Enemy Unknown are offered in three tiers, with each one offering something nifty for fans. We don't yet know what the magic unlock numbers are, but we do know what's in store at each level, including some extra bits and pieces for fans of Team Fortress 2:
REWARD 1: Elite Soldier Pack
The Elite Soldier Pack will provide the ultimate tools for soldier customization in XCOM: Enemy Unknown, including:
REWARD 2: Three Exclusive XCOM TF2 Items (plus everything above)
REWARD 3: A free copy of Civilization V! (plus everything above)
Already own Civilization V? Gift a copy to your friend.
If you're not able to get the game via Steam, you won't have to miss out completely - ask around your local gaming retailers as the Elite Soldier Pack is available through selected outlets. It'll be interesting to see how the plan affects pre-orders, however: Will more people jump onboard if it looks more certain they'll get a free game?
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
