I Am Alive heading to PC despite Ubisoft protests

Ubisoft argued - rather violently - that it would not launch its post-apocalyptic action-adventure game I Am Alive on PC. However, here we are, with the game due out on Windows machines on September 13th.

Back in November of 2011, Ubisoft spokesperson Stanislas Mettra announced, simply, that there would not be a PC version of the game, citing "piracy concerns".

We’ve heard loud and clear that PC gamers are bitching about there being no version for them. But are these people just making noise just because there’s no version, or because it’s a game they actually want to play? Would they buy it if we made it?

Mettra also commented that it wouldn't be worth releasing the game for PC "if only 50,000 people buy the game".

...it seems that nine months of thinking time has changed the studio's mind.

I Am Alive, released to mixed reviews in early 2012, follows a man's journey to find his wife and daughter, lost during the "Event". His hometown of Haventon has been all-but destroyed, coated in toxic ash, and society is but a memory.

As well as the deadly atmosphere and other environmental challenges, I Am Alive is full of enemies, hell-bent on doing whatever it takes to survive, even if that means you don't. The game's unique combat system sees Intimidation used as a key approach - you'll be able to get rid of cowards simply by waving an empty gun in their face, but others are less easily convinced.

The PC version has been appropriately revamped and enhanced, featuring high-res support and super-sharp graphics. There's also two new gameplay modes for I Am Alive: Easy (with infinite retries), and Replay, which lets you replay any level, trying to uncover more loot.

The question now begs, however: As a PC gamer, will you support the publisher who didn't want to support you?
