Epic Games has officially acquired the rest of People Can Fly, the Polish development studio behind Bulletstorm and Painkiller. The news follows founder Adrian Chmielarz and two key art staff announcing their departure from the company over the weekend.
The news sheds some light on the trio's sudden decision. Chmielarz, Andrzej Poznanski and Michal Kosieradzki left People Can Fly following Epic announcing its intention to buy out the company last week. Epic vice president Mark Rein explains to Polygon that the resignations were "amiable", and the acquisition was "something we always hoped to do".
We will be helping (Chmielarz) with some future announcements - our paths will be crossing again.
In the years since, People Can Fly has worked on elements of all three Gears of War games, a relationship which culminated in the announcement that the Polish developer would take on sole duties on the upcoming Gears of War: Judgment.
Rein promises that the buyout - and the departure of key staff - will not impact Judgment's development.
I like video games and music and cups of tea and noodles and beagles and colour-cycling LEDs.
