DayZ plans stand-alone release

Even though we sorta-kinda already knew, DayZ creator Dean "Rocket" Hall has spelled it out: "DayZ will be developed as a standalone game."

Churchill: Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end, but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

The full release - unsurprisingly also known as DayZ - will be developed by Bohemia Interactive, with Rocket taking on the role of project lead. The New Zealand-born developer describes this as a "fairy-tale outcome" for the project, which was launched just four months as a mod for Bohemia's military FPS ArmA II and has already claimed more than one million fans.

I realize people will have many, many questions - but we wanted to let everyone know the announcement now. Over the coming weeks, these questions will be answered.

Rocket explains that the new game "will follow the Minecraft development model" - with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price, and plenty of fast iterations to follow.

I just bought Arma II recently exclusively for DayZ… I assume i am going to have to fork out more money now for the stand alone game..

Surprisingly enough I don’t even care. DayZ is amazing, worth every cent. Bring it on Bohemia!!
