Think E3 is easy?
Watch here on E3 week and see how much exercise I do.
Backup is here: Judge Dredd: Countdown Sector 106 has launched onto the Apple App Store today, the interactive story putting you comfortably into the shiny boots of one of the world's greatest enforcers.
The Australian-made Gamebook comes from Tin Man Games, who have carefully crafted an interactive story around the Judge - every decision you make, each page you turn will impact on the narrative.
As it happens, Sector 106 of Mega-City One is running a little low when it comes to senior Street Judges. The powers that be have been forced to promote several of the most experienced Judges - including Dredd - into the new senior job, but everything doesn't exactly go smoothly.
It starts like any other day, a routine patrol, arresting skysurfers and juves, and quickly escalates into a race against time, as "Voices of Dredd" start turning up in the hands of the local perps. You have your Lawmaster bike and your Lawgiver weapon, and the countdown has begun: Pit yourself against the Sector 106 criminal underworld!
...that, of course, is just the beginning. You're able to choose how it plays out from there, by making choices at every turn, but also by using the new, realistic dice-based battle system to take down the bad guys. And things are a little different than we saw in the more fantasy-based Gamebook Adventures series, as Tin Man Creative Director Neil Rennison explains:
We’ve kept the traditional melee turn-based battle system and skill rolls from our fantasy series, but also designed a faster and more intensive system for dealing with shootouts. As Dredd you get to choose the difficulty of the encounter, which makes the rolls easier or harder depending on your Lawgiver skills. Do you choose to try and take down all of your enemies in one go, or just one at a time, risking getting shot by the remaining perps?
While some things have changed, plenty have stayed the same: The simple save-point system of Bookmarking is still there, and your inventory system will keep track of information you pick up, as well as your skill stats. There's also a bunch of artwork and achievements collect - and they're joined by 'perp rap sheets' which contain mugshots and background info on the individuals reached by the long arm of the law.
This is certainly the year for Dredd, with the movie coming out soon as well as it being 2000 AD’s 35th Anniversary. We are very excited to be part of the 2000 AD universe and believe that we have created an awesome interactive adventure.
Judge Dredd: Countdown Sector 106 is available right now (or as soon as your Apple App Store refreshes), and will set you back a mere US$4.99 or equivalent.
Be kind and peaceful to each other. Eat recycled food. It's good for the environment and okay for you.
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
