Final Fantasy XIV is back, but not as we know it. Square Enix has announced that the "version 2.0" of the 2010 MMO has been given a new name, meaning gamers around the world are now salivating in anticipation of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
Rebuilt from the ground up, A Realm Reborn features a new world and a new storyline, focussing on the core concept of "rebirth".
Naoki Yoshida, Producer/Director of Final Fantasy XIV explains:
Since announcing our plans for the future of the title last October, we have been working tirelessly to include all of the elements that we have promised in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn, which we announced today. This new title not only becomes a symbol of a completely new FINAL FANTASY XIV, but also marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the FINAL FANTASY series. I hope you’re looking forward to it!
The game's brand new website is also live right now, featuring a little more information about the world of Hydaelyn, the realm of Eorzea, and the folks who live there.
Expected later this year or early 2013, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be available for PC and PS3, complete with new graphics engine, a revamped interface, new data and server structures, new content, new gameplay, and redesigned maps.
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
