Welcome to Player Attack!

Borderlands 2 is apparently finished, quite lengthy

Traditionally, gamers celebrate when a game has gone gold - that is, when it's "finished" and been sent off for publication. Gearbox likes to do things a little differently though, and invites us to celebrate Borderlands 2 one step earlier.

The studio announces that Borderlands 2 is officially on its way to certification.

This means that the game’s on-disc content has been locked down and will be thoroughly tested to ensure it is ready for release -– in other words, the game is finished and we cannot make any further changes to the game.

This is a pretty major step for Gearbox, who has also just revealed the single-player campaign for Borderlands 2 is a whopping "58 hours long". Keep in mind, that's playing with one character class. There are five available.

VP of Marketing, Steve Gibson, explains:

We look at it as a hobby, and that isn’t even counting the new Badass Points system and how that’ll affect every character you do. We want it to feel like you get more for your money, we’re happy for people to pay their money once and feel that they get ongoing value.

This backs up what we heard last month at E3, where Art Director Jeramy Cooke told us he still met people today who were continuing to explore the world of the original Borderlands, showing gamers really do take Pandora seriously.

Borderlands 2 is not due to hit shelves until mid September (18th in North America, 21st internationally), so what is Gearbox going to do with itself in the meantime? Simple: Concentrate on the new character class, the Mechromancer. This is one that won't be included in the game at launch, but will instead be released as free DLC to members of the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club a few months after.

What's the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club, I hear you ask! It's a fancy way of saying "People who have preordered the game from selected retailers", because Gearbox is all about the fancy.

If you're interested in getting your hands on the Mechromancer - and indeed, the Creature Slaughter Dome - head to your local retailer and find out if they're offering the pre-order bonus and Premiere Club membership.
