Assassin's Creed is headed to the big screen, with the news that Michael Fassbender is set to produce - and star in - a film based on the smash video game series from Ubisoft. It's been revealed that Fassbender will not play in-game character Desmond, instead taking on the role of a bartender who discovers he is a descendant of famous assassins.
Michael Fassbender was our first choice. Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.
No writer has yet been attached - nor a director - and nobody's quite sure who will distribute the film when it's done, but these things will all be sorted out in good time.
We're open to re-discuss with the key studios once the production package is finalised. Whatever the financial model, UMP will limit its risk investment.
The star of Prometheus, Fassbender has signed up to co-produce the omvie project alongside DMC Film partner Conor McCaughan. This isn't the first time a cinematic interpretation of Assassin's Creed has been on the table - Sony Pictures were reportedly working on their own late last year, but that project was put on hold, leaving the way for Ubisoft's film arm to branch out independently.
I like video games and music and cups of tea and noodles and beagles and colour-cycling LEDs.
