When it comes to swarms of enemies, there are a few groups that spring immediately to mind. Zombies! Pirates! Ninjas! ...but how many games can you remember which feature flocks of Vikings? Not many? That's okay - UK start-up Clever Beans has leapt to fill the niche, answering once and for all exactly what happens When Vikings Attack!
Simply put, a whole bunch of Viking invaders got lost on their way to your town, back in the day. It took them 1200 years to get back on track, but they're here now and ready for battle! Your task: Gather up a team of local townsfolk (including a butcher, a pastor, a schoolboy, a policeman and a construction worker... the Indian chief is nowhere to be seen), and banish these medieval men by throwing things at them!
And while that pretty much is the general concept behind When Vikings Attack, Andrew Newton from developer Clever Beans was on-hand at E3 to explain a little more.
We had a chance to check out When Vikings Attack in the Sony booth - both in solo mode and playing alongside Andrew and another developer to check out multiplayer. Proving that the game is super-easy to pick up (and rather addictive), team Player Attack put up a good fight against team Clever Beans, winning a match before being narrowly beaten in best of three.
With its Pikmin-like elements, adorable art style and engaging little people, When Vikings Attack will be a killer party game - because who doesn't want to throw a limousine at their best mate?
June is E3 time - and for Player Attack, that means plenty of videos for you to watch. To see what we've been up to, check the E3 2012 events page, or hop over to our Blip.tv channel.
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
