Learn how the economy works in SimCity

EA is toying with us, drip-feeding bits and pieces about just what's going on behind the scenes at SimCity. At this rate, by the time the game finally hits our shelves (next year!), we'll know exactly what it is that makes the GlassBox game engine tick - even if we won't really know what it looks like.

The latest video - a second look behind the scenes - looks at the bits and pieces which make up SimCity's Economic loop scenario.

Much like the previous video, this one is using the actual gameplay engine, but some rather unofficial graphic placeholders. It's designed to give you an idea of how it all works, rather than how it all looks. Pretty much a total reversal of how many marketing strategies work these days, which are all about the flash and glamour, while keeping tightlipped on just how the AI decides which direction to head in.

But still - innovation is something we've come to expect (demand?) from Maxis and the SimCity franchise, and it's great to see that even after nearly a decade away from the headlines, some things never change.
